Did you know that Frederick Douglass’s second wife was a Mount Holyoke alumna? Helen Pitts Douglass graduated in 1858 and went on to a long and illustrious career dedicated to abolitionism, women’s rights, and general social justice work. In 1884 she married Frederick Douglass against fierce and vehement opposition. However the Douglesses spent eleven happy years together until Frederick’s death.
